Rollrights Stones Oxfordshire Nr. Chipping Norton 3rd of August 2009 ![]() Out all the sightings in 2009 this was one of the most impressive ! On August 3rd 2009 I received a cell phone text from Crop circle connector to inform me of a new crop circle at Rollrights Stones in Oxfordshire. As this location is only a 35 minute drive from where I live, I didn't hesitate to go there straight away. It was an overcast evening when myself, my wife and my two youngest children arrived at Rollrights. Rain clouds were visible in the distance so I started to take photos as soon as we entered the formation. We were the only people in this crop circle at the time. The first few shots I took came out blurry so I went through all the camera settings and found that all settings were appropriate for light conditions at the time. So I tried again but results were blurry pictures once again. So I stepped out of the crop circle and tried taking shots again, this time images were better, but when I re-entered the crop circle my camera started playing up once again. So I took out the battery and replaced it with a fully charged one, cleaned the lens and tried again. images were still not perfect but now slightly better than before. As I was checking taken images on the small screen on the back of the camera something in the corner of my eye moved across one of the larger circles, something fast and dark. At first I thought it was some kind of animal so I thought nothing more of it. As I was just about to raise my camera pole this some thing shot across a circle into another circle. This time my reaction changed into a manner such as ' What the hell was that ?'. As this some thing was at the very edge of the circle. where I stood I could not see what It was. So I angled my camera to a downward position so It was pointing down at the field rather than towards the horizon. I raised my camera pole as high as I could and waited for the 10 second timer to take the shot. I quickly checked the image taken and there at the edge of the circle there was something there. The screen on the back of my camera was to small to make out what It could possibly be so rather than waste time I decided to walk towards the circle in question. I entered the tram line nearest to the circle in question and approached it slowly. I only managed to take a few steps when this some thing darted into the wheat and vanished. I picked up pace, looked and searched but nothing - it was gone. I didn't dare tell my wife about this who was playing with my children on the other side of this crop formation as I knew her reaction would be to get out straight away and take my playing children back to the car. Well, I can tell you that she didn't escape an experience which happened to her later. It was approximately half an hour or so after the initial sighting and after a frustrating attempt to count the circles which I managed to get a different count every time, when loud clicking begun. This clicking sound could be compared with clicking sounds that dolphins make. I paused taking images and looked around - took a few steps forward towards the sound. Then approximately 100 feet from where I was standing, something small, fast and dark came out of the tram line, went through one circle then into the next and then just stopped ! Dark grey skinned ( appeared to be unclothed ) - large head - big black eyes - skimpy humanoid body and no more than 2.5 - 3 feet tall. The height is a rough estimate as this humanoid looking 'Being' was sat on some small vehicle which I called a funky scooter. How else do you describe something very bizarre which has never been seen before ?. Why I described it as a funky scooter is because the vehicle the Being sat on simply glided across the wheat, it had no wheels, made no sound, had some kind of back rest with two U shaped pipes on the back of the back rest pointing downwards with 2 glowing lights and an upward curved front dash. There was nothing visible which could be used to steer the vehicle ( nothing that I could see from where I stood ) . At this point I truly did not know what to do, I stood there in a frozen state with questions milling in my head. Will it disappear again if I move towards it? Do I say something ? What the hell do I do ? God I have my young children in the field , Is it friendly, is it safe ? Whats it going to do next ? I can assure you that in a such unexpected situation everything that I have prepared myself simply fell apart. I came out for an evening to take pictures of a crop circle with my young family and did not expect anything else as it was outside the Wiltshire boundary and hear I am staring at some small Being in Oxfordshire. ,In the mean time this little chap was doing something, arms were moving and at one stage it sat upright. Then I shouted out ' ' Hi There '. ( There are 1001 questions and all I could say was ' Hi There ! ' ) God ! did it hear me ? . The Beings head turned towards me and was now looking directly at me !. For crying out loud Andrew use your bloody camera !. In a split second this thought rattled in my head - its almost as if this Being was saying ' for gods sake I'm posing take that bloody picture' ! . With shaking hands I turned a dial, set the camera to 10 seconds and raised the camera pole. The Being was still there so I took another shot. Just as I was lowering my camera pole I looked towards where the Being was and all I could see now was the back of the vehicle as it disappeared down a tram line. I dropped my camera pole and run towards the circle where the Being was - I could see a distinctive path of flattened wheat where the Being went through upright wheat - it was warm to the touch !. I looked down the tram line but the Being was not seen again. It started to drizzle with rain so I quickly run back to retrieve my camera and pole, by now my wife was ushering my children out of the field. When we returned to my car I was just about to make a telephone call to a colleague of mine with this extraordinary news when I realised that my blue-tooth headset was no longer in my ear. I checked my pockets, checked in my car - It wasn't found. So I said to my wife that I had to go back and retrace my steps to see if I could find it. I went back inside the crop circle with my mobile phone pointing to the ground, hoping that my phone would go 'ping' and reconnect with my head-set. After walking through all the circles in circles - still nothing. I returned back to my car and said to my wife that I couldn't find it, so she said 'let me try' . Before I could say anything to her she was racing back towards the crop circle. Within 15 minutes or so my wife returned and was looking a bit shaken. She reached out her hand and gave me my blue-tooth headset!. All I could say to her was ' how the hell did you manage to find it?'. My wife entered one of the first circles nearest to a tram line and simply said out loud ' Where is it?'. At that moment when she spoke my blue-tooth headset dropped by her feet !!!!!!!!! . Taken aback and very spooked by the experience my wife picked up the head set and quickly run out of the field!!!!. I got my headset back but interestingly it wasn't complete, the piece which goes around the ear was gone. This piece had to be removed by force as the fitting was extremely tight. Why this piece was removed I will never know but one thing is for sure, the headset never worked again !. Crop Circle researchers and circle makers know that Roll Rights formation was man made but they will not accept that Extra Terrestrial Entities/Beings are attracted to man made crop circles and the symbology we use within designs. The reason sightings such as this are not taken seriously by the so called crop circle community is simply that it would kill the magic of crop circles appearing so mysteriously and all those fancy theories which generate thousands of pounds every year. Cash would stop pouring in if you the public finally realised that ALL crop circles are made by man. Some circle makers are fully aware that their art work attracts unexplained entities , some circle makers think its mumbo jumbo and some crop circle makers fully know that what they do out in the fields is a form of communication between the Entity and us. ( Consider crop circles as a symbolic language or a dialogue between the Entity and us ) Sadly such a concept of making designs in crop fields to attract Entities would be classified as an illegal pastime so no cash would be earned by so called crop circle researchers. However for us to discover more - we need man made circles. We have to find a symbolic language within crop circle designs where communication and interaction can begin on a serious level. The peddling of ideas by the crop circle community that crop circles are a mysterious creation by paranormal forces must stop !!! . We are NOT THE DEBUNKERS - WE ARE NOT THE MISINFORMANTS - The people who you trust the most are the people who provide you with pretty aerial pictures, fancy conferences, pretty calendars, DVDs of fantasy and fables are the ones who are twisting your minds just so they can retain their long term egos, keep their books selling and cash flowing !!!! Wake UP !. I can assure 100% that I HAVE FOUND A WAY TO INTERACT WITH THESE BEINGS. YES ! I HAVE FOUND A WAY ! Its a crying shame that we are so close but yet so far in creating a dialogue and an understanding that there are physical beings who simply want you to wake up to the corrupt ways of man and to let you know that they are real and that they exist as physical Beings. Take my comments in any way you like but I would rather you slandered my name for telling you the truth, rather than praising me and throwing away your hard earned cash for telling you lies. Thank you for reading. ![]() Introducing the Rollright Stones The 17th and 18th century antiquarians who first investigated the British megaliths were obviously totally fried inspirational geniuses, but were also completely devoted to their cause and laid many of the foundations for modern archaeology. Theories for the Rollrights ranged from a victory memorial for Rollo the Dane (Camden’s “Britannia” 1586) to Druid temples (John Aubrey 1649) to having been built by Romans (Inigo Jones 1655). The Danish interpretation was swept away in 1743 when William Stukeley published “Abury, a Temple of the Druids”. Stukeley was to become obsessed by his C-of-E Druidic theories. Of the Rollrights he said, “I cannot but suppose ‘em to have been an heathen temple of our Ancestors, perhaps in the Druids’ time”. Dr (later Rev) Stukeley called Rollright “Rholdrwyg” or “Druid’s Wheel” - and he was likely to have been an inspiration behind William Blake’s vision of a New Jerusalem. Between them Stukeley, the scholar, and, later, Blake, the poet, ensured that megalithic studies would never in future be entirely secular… and would be as much the rightful property of artists and mystics as of archaeologists. A contemporary of Stukeley, Roger Gale, arrived at the Rollrights in 1719 after visiting Stonehenge and Avebury. He was disappointed that this famous third Circle should seem “but a molehill to a mountain”. However, even to this day, many visitors to the Stones find that their character, “approachable in size, yet fantastic in form, produces a much stronger feeling of the mystery of their ancient purpose.” ![]() Alignments and Archaeo-astronomy During the last century archaeologists and antiquarians started to adopt a more scientific approach to the study of “megalithic piles”. The realisation was dawning that human prehistory was much older than had previously been suspected, and the division of prehistory into the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages was firmly established. The romantic notion that the Druids had been responsible for all things megalithic was also starting to lose favour as rigorous fieldwork became the flavour of the day. At the same time interest in stellar alignments was growing. It was suggested that the King Stone was aligned with the rising of the star Capella or the setting of Alpha Centauri, and various attempts were made to compare the architecture of the Rollrights with that of Stonehenge. All sorts of learned theories were proposed to support idiosyncratic ideas. Many of these “never provided more than tantalising scraps of evidence for the erection of imposing hypotheses…and all too often proved too top-heavy for their meagre foundations of fact.” However, the ancient builders of the Circle did create an sightline to the major rising of the midsummer moon - it was raining (again) on the last Solstice so we’ll just have to take Aubrey Burl’s word on this one. The period between the 1920’s and the 1950’s saw a revival of straight archaeology at the Rollrights and other Stone Circles. Archaeo-astronomy made a very public re-appearance in 1967 when Professor Alexander Thom published “Megalithic Sites in Britain” - a synthesis of his research into the astronomical alignments, geometry and mathematics of Stone Circles, in which he demonstrated that many megaliths served an ancient astronomical function. Orthodox archaeology by and large dismissed Thom’s view that Neolithic men and women possessed considerable, and now lost, mathematical skills. Since then, interest in megalithic studies has been on the increase, with some of the more radical claims for prehistoric science being balanced by traditional archaeology. Even though the Rollright Stone Circle is only 104 feet in diameter it seems to us that there is plenty of room inside it to accommodate whatever theory the visiting megalithomaniac wants to believe. ![]() The King’s Men At present there are 77 stones of heavily weathered local oolitic limestone, which were poetically described by William Stukeley as being “corroded like worm eaten wood, by the harsh Jaws of Time”, which made “a very noble, rustic, sight, and strike an odd terror upon the spectators, and admiration at the design of ‘em”. Aubrey Burl has, in a more down to earth way, called the Rollrights “seventy-seven stones, stumps and lumps of leprous limestone”. This number seems to have altered considerably over the years - drawings from the tail-end of the 19th century, just before the Stones were scheduled under the 1882 Ancient Monuments Protection Act along with Stonehenge and Avebury, show about 25 stones in the Circle. “In the year 1882 the proprietor of Little Rollright replaced all the fallen stones in their original foundation.” The Rollright Stone Circle is the southerly cousin of the Cumbrian circles such as Swinside and Long Meg and her Daughters in the English Lake District. Family traits include similar size, shape, close-set stones (it is believed that there originally some 105 stones standing shoulder to shoulder), astronomically-aligned entrance and a pair of outlying portals where gates were hung to stop the sheep from straying into the road. ![]() The King Stone Its purpose and age are unclear, although it is believed to be of middle Bronze Age origin. Some sources suggest that it might be an outlier to the Stone Circle. The strange shape (likened to a seal balancing a ball on its nose) of this standing stone has less to do with the weathering effects of nature than with the destructive habit of 19th century drovers who chipped off small pieces to act as lucky charms and keep the Devil at bay. Thankfully this superstitious vandalism no longer goes on. ![]() The Whispering Knights dolmen The 5000 year old burial chamber, believed to be part of a Neolithic long barrow . The Knights are a small group of five upright stones 400 yards away from the actual Stone Circle, who got their name because of the conspiratorial way in which they lean inwards towards each other as if they are plotting against their king. 1 Comment | CropcircleWisdom
